Stranded Deep 2 Floating Home Building

Scavenge, craft, and take the camp with you when the river turns hostile.

Floating Home Building

The original Stranded Deep taught a generation to marry an island. You landed, you built, you overfarmed the palms, and eventually you stared at the ocean wondering whether the next atoll was worth a raft night. Stranded Deep 2 answers that boredom with a sentence on Steam: build a home, take it with you.

North Beach Games wants scavenging, tool crafting, and a floating home on the river. You can pack up and move to the next stretch or settle the banks. Everything you build can come with you. That is the entire pitch. This guide unpacks what that probably means in play, what the Czech Mates development blog already showed about structure and raft work, and how to avoid turning a mobile base into a hippo buffet.

Two valid homes, one river

A bank camp is still allowed. Palms, fire, a leaf shelter, and a yellow kayak in the reeds — the reveal screenshots already look like a cousin of the first game’s beach start. Use a bank when you need shade, a crafting pause, or a dive staging area. Leave a bank when tracks show up, when the current makes salvage awkward, or when the local biome is played out.

A floating home is the new default for long runs. The river is endless and procedural, with hand-crafted locations dropped along it. If your walls cannot move, the map will outrun you. Steam also lists raft navigation next to the kayak, so expect a spectrum: a paddle craft for scouting and a heavier home that carries storage, stations, and the junk you are not ready to abandon.

The skill is switching. How to survive will punish a pretty camp on a crocodile commute. River exploration will punish a floating palace you cannot steer through rapids. Build light until the stretch is understood, then commit materials.

Materials are the new paint job

Crafting is described as more physical. You choose materials for each part of a tool and the same logic applies to structures. Better materials appear as you travel, so a spear lashing and a roof beam can both advertise where you have been. That is not a skill tree screenshot. It is a reason to leave a comfortable eddy.

Until recipes exist, gather with intent:

  • Riverside salvage (wrecks, vehicles, abandoned structures) is called out in official blogs as a travel reward.
  • Terrain can be dug and the river redirected. That is a building tool as much as a toy. A redirected channel can protect a bank or starve a neighbor of water — we will only know the rules in Early Access.
  • Do not hoard unique parts on a craft you cannot retrieve. If the home can sink, the loot can too.

Lessons from Czech Mates

The embedded video walks the August 2025 Czech Mates developer update: Prague studio culture, structure work, and raft building progress from before the desert was public. Watch it for tone, not for a parts list. The team was already treating rafts and frames as first-class problems a year before the teaser. That matches the 2026 Steam copy. It does not freeze the art, the biomes, or the final snapping rules.

If you remember Cartographer islands with foundation spam, assume the sequel wants fewer cheap floor tiles and more pieces that mean something when they move. Cartographer 2.0 will let you author locations; it is not a substitute for surviving the generated river.

Building for co-op without a player cap

Co-op is first-class and unspecified. Design camps as if a second body might exist: extra storage, a clear bow and stern, and jobs that do not require sitting in the same hitbox. Do not architect a palace for eight people because a number has not been printed. Do not architect a solo coffin either if you plan to invite a friend the week multiplayer lands.

A launch-week building order

  1. Secure a kayak and a watch glance. Travel beats architecture for the first hour. See getting started.
  2. Plant a tiny bank camp only long enough to cook, dry, and stash overflow. Fire and shade first.
  3. Convert salvage into a raft or modular floor you can tow. Keep the profile low.
  4. Add stations that unlock range: water, storage, a sleep spot. Skip monuments.
  5. Re-evaluate every new biome using biome priorities. Pack up when the food chain shifts. The wildlife tiers exist so you do not decorate a hippo lawn.

When Early Access publishes snapping, durability, and pack-up inputs, this page will add them. Until then, the only building mistake that is already visible is treating the sequel like another static island tycoon. The river moves. Your walls should too.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Can I still build on land in Stranded Deep 2?

Yes. Steam says you can settle the banks or pack up and move. Both are intended.

What is a floating home?

A camp you construct on the river so storage and shelter travel with you instead of locking you to one shore.

Are crafting recipes public?

No. Official text only confirms material-based parts for tools and structures. Exact lists wait for Early Access.

Does terrain digging affect bases?

The studio says you can reshape landscape and redirect the river. How that interacts with foundations is unconfirmed.

Where should I read next?

Pair this with river exploration and how to survive.
