Stranded Deep 2 System Requirements

The official Steam minimums, and why they are so much heavier than the original.

Last updated:

System Requirements

Stranded Deep 2 is a wishlist, but the hardware bill is already on Steam. If you only remember the first game’s dual-core, 4 GB RAM, Vista-era floor, stop. The sequel is a DirectX 12, Windows 11, SSD, 16 GB RAM product with an 8 GB class GPU as the door price.

This page copies the official minimum list, explains each line in plain language, and flags what is still missing: a recommended table, macOS/Linux, and Steam Deck verification. Pair it with getting started if you are still deciding whether to wishlist, and with Early Access if you hoped a handheld would save you.

Official minimum (PC)

Steam and the official FAQ agree on the following minimum:

  • OS: Windows 11 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-11400 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600X
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER (8 GB) or AMD Radeon RX 6600 (8 GB)
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Storage: 4 GB available space
  • Additional notes: SSD required

There is no recommended spec block on the store at the time of the reveal. There is no macOS or Linux list. Platforms on the API are Windows true, Mac false, Linux false. Proton users can try later; the wiki will not pretend a Gold rating exists today.

What each line actually means

Windows 11 as a minimum is the headline for anyone still on 10. The original supported a long tail of old OS versions. This one does not. If you cannot install 11, you cannot meet the published floor.

The CPUs are 2020–2021 mainstream parts. An i5-11400 is six cores. A 3600X is six cores with a higher clock. Four-thread office boxes from the original’s era are out.

16 GB RAM is four times some of the early original minimums and double the later 8 GB Steam blob. Close the Chrome zoo if you were planning to scrape by.

GPU is the expensive jump. RTX 2060 SUPER 8 GB or RX 6600 8 GB. Integrated graphics are not in the conversation. 4 GB cards that “ran SD1 on low” are not in the conversation. VRAM is called out because the desert, water, and foliage in the reveal shots are not the old island kit.

DirectX 12 plus SSD is the modern tax. The 4 GB install size looks small because the game is not out; treat it as a placeholder that will grow, and treat the SSD requirement as real. An HDD is explicitly not the plan.

Deck, controllers, and other devices

Steam Deck compatibility shows as unknown. Official FAQ: they aim to become Steam Deck Verified during Early Access and they want Deck players in the feedback pile. That is an invitation, not a badge. If you buy a Deck for this title alone, you are volunteering as a tester.

Controller support will be added during Early Access. Keyboard and mouse is the safe assumption for the first PC build. Do not skip co-op couch dreams until that patch note exists.

Consoles are planned “later” with no SKU. A PlayStation or Xbox spec sheet does not exist. Ignore mock-up articles that invent one.

Upgrade order if you fail the check

  1. Confirm Windows 11 64-bit. Everything else is academic if the OS is wrong.
  2. Confirm 16 GB RAM. It is the cheapest fix for many towers.
  3. Confirm an SSD with headroom above 4 GB. The number will rise.
  4. GPU last, because it costs the most. 2060 SUPER / 6600 8 GB is the published door, not a 60 FPS hippo guarantee.
  5. CPU if you are on dual-core museum hardware.

After you pass, go play the waiting game properly: system comparison, how to survive, wildlife tiers. Hardware is the only spec you can finish today. The river still needs 2027.

When Steam adds a recommended table or a Deck rating, this page will gain a second table. Until then, minimum means minimum, and the toaster era of Stranded Deep is over.
